Potgieter’s strong South African challenge to Alfred Dunhill Links

Aldrich Potgieter has added his name to an already strong field for this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, with the young South African who has taken world golf by storm joining some of the biggest names in world golf in St Andrews this October.

The 20-year-old star, who this year won his first PGA Tour title and qualified for his first FedEx Cup Playoffs, has been granted a sponsor’s invitation to compete in this prestigious DP World Tour event.

“I’m extremely excited and grateful to be playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is such a unique week in golf. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of links golf, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of this tournament and sharing the fairways with the sports stars and celebrities,” said Potgieter, who made his debut in this tournament in 2023 shortly after he turned professional.

“So many people who are part of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship family have played a role in my journey so far, and it’s going to be wonderful to be able to share this week with them.”

His inclusion in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will put the spotlight on one of the brightest new talents in world golf.

As an amateur, Potgieter became the second youngest winner of The Amateur at the age of 17 in 2022. He turned professional in 2023, and in 2024 became the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history at the age of 19 years, four month and 11 days with his triumph in The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. This year he made further history when he became the youngest South African winner on the PGA Tour with his victory in the Rocket Classic.

He'll join a South African contingent chasing a second Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title for the country following Branden Grace’s triumph in 2012.
