Line-up for family favourites in Alfred Dunhill Links draw

Matt Fitzpatrick and his mum Sue face a unique challenge as they start the defence of their Alfred Dunhill Links Team Championship on Thursday.

The draw for the Championship has been announced and the Fitzpatricks, who last year won both the Individual and Team titles, begin the first round at Carnoustie.

Lining up against them, and also playing at Carnoustie, the toughest of the three courses, will be world No.3 Rory McIlroy with father Gerry, who finished runners-up in 2019, Scottish star Bob MacIntyre with dad Dougie, and two-time Alfred Dunhill Links winner Tyrrell Hatton and dad Jeff.

Also playing is Sue’s younger son Alex, the brother of Matt, who has been drawn to play with Hollywood star Kathryn Newton.

Among some other fascinating pairings, five-time Major Champion Brooks Koepka has been drawn with American Brian Thompson, Spain’s Jon Rahm partners Mohammed Farooq, and Shane Lowry teams up with fellow Irishman Gerry McManus. Tommy Fleetwood once again joins with American Ogden Phipps, with whom he won the Team Championship in 2019.

Hollywood actor Michael Douglas plays with Spanish pro Nacho Elvira, while Bill Murray plays with England’s Jordan Smith and Andy Garcia partners Eddie Pepperell.
