Hydrogen-powered generator tested at St Andrews
French company INOCEL deployed its hydrogen fuel cell generator at this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in St Andrews to evaluate the generator’s performance in a live event environment.
The generator was tested in selected areas of the tournament infrastructure including catering and the media centre. The on-site tests demonstrated zero-emission power capability.
With a commitment to sustainable power generation, INOCEL deployed the hydrogen-powered generator to deliver a clean, reliable and scalable energy solution for key on-site operations. This initial deployment demonstrates the potential for a future large-scale collaboration between the tournament and INOCEL, allowing INOCEL to explore how its hydrogen power solutions can effectively support future events.
Roger Kelly, Chief Press Officer, Alfred Dunhill Links, said: “This first collaboration with INOCEL represents an important step toward integrating hydrogen-based power solutions into tournament operations. We look forward to continuing this journey toward a more sustainable future for golf and global sporting events.”
INOCEL generators are equipped with its proprietary fuel cells, recognised as one of the most powerful, compact, and high-performing technology available on the market. The hydrogen generator offers a distinctive solution for sustainable power generation, delivering zero-emission, reliable, and modular electricity production in any location.
With power capacities ranging from a few kVA to several MW, the GEN-Z is designed to meet the critical requirements of off-grid power supply and backup power applications.
The deployment enabled real-time monitoring of power quality, efficiency, thermal management, and load variations under operational conditions, while integrating with the site’s temporary power infrastructure.
“The insights gathered from this pilot will guide INOCEL’s strategy for scaling deployments across events sites, optimising runtime performance, modular redundancy, and hydrogen logistics to meet the specific requirements of diverse event environments,” said Jules Billiet, CEO at INOCEL.
INOCEL designs, develops, and markets modular hydrogen generators for the stationary, maritime and heavy-duty land mobility sectors. Its expertise includes the development of fuel cell technologies as well as their integration into complete systems. INOCEL also supports its clients with a comprehensive solution covering infrastructure studies, installation, maintenance and hydrogen supply.
INOCEL is a French company with two sites in France: a R&D center in Grenoble, a hub of innovation and technology, and a gigafactory in Belfort, with a production line capable of manufacturing tens of thousands of units per year, a hydrogen hub within a state-of-the-art industrial territory.
