Billy Horschel to team up with ‘Mr West Ham’
August 29, 2022
US PGA Tour star Billy Horschel will be returning to St Andrews next month for the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, looking for his first win in the event.
However just as much focus for him this year is going to be the Team Championship, where he will be partnering former West Ham captain Mark Noble.
Billy is Florida born and bred, but loves football and is a passionate long range supporter of West Ham United and an ardent admirer of Noble, who played more than 550 times for the London club over 18 years.
Billy said: “I’m counting down my return to the Alfred Dunhill Links. I love playing in Scotland, it doesn’t get much better than being able to compete on historic Links courses like St Andrews, Carnoustie and of course beautiful Kingsbarns.
“I’ve been a supporter of West Ham for quite some time and over the last couple of years I’ve been lucky enough to befriend Mark Noble and call him one of my best friends. A former captain of the club and a club legend, there’s a reason he earned the title Mr West Ham as he embodies the West Ham spirit! I’m delighted to have Mark as my partner this year and look forward to Mr West Ham leading us to victory.”
Last year Horschel played in the Team Championship with his father Billy Snr, who celebrated his 70th birthday during the event. “Being able to share the experience with my Dad last year, playing together, was unforgettable,” he said.
This year has been good for Horschel, who had one of the biggest wins of his career with victory in the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament in Ohio in June. Last year he also won two other big events, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and the WGC-Dell Matchplay in Austin.
Among other top players in the world-class field are four-time Major champion Rory McIlroy, two-time Alfred Dunhill Links winner Tyrrell Hatton, 2019 Team Championship winner Tommy Fleetwood and 2018 Open champion Francesco Molinari.
