One of the world’s truly global golfers with more than 70 victories worldwide, he played tennis, rugby union, cricket and golf as a youngster, but reached scratch at the age of 14 when he won the World Junior Golf Championship and then decided to focus on golf. Turned professional in 1989, has 28 European Tour wins on his CV, he reached World Number One, has four Major Championship victories to his name and was European Number One twice in 2003 and 2004. Established the Els for Autism Foundation in 2009, with son Ben, who is autistic, the driving force behind the mission. Also entered into wine production, establishing Ernie Els Wines in 1999, now featuring a portfolio of award-winning wines. Is an Honorary Life Member of the European Tour and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2010.
