Schalk Burger Jnr

A member of the South Africa team which won the 2007 Rugby World Cup, he holds the record for the most appearances by a Springbok flanker with 86 and the most tries by a flanker with 13.

He was named IRB World Player of the Year in 2004 and was twice South African Player of the Year in 2004 and 2011.

He received the Laureus Comeback of the Year Award in 2015 after returning to the Springboks team after recovering from spinal meningitis.

His father is Schalk Burger, who also played for South Africa and is also playing.

Now a TV broadcaster, he is also involved in a property company.

Plays most of his golf at Metropolitan in Cape Town.

This is his first appearance in the Alfred Dunhill Links.

Has never played the Old Course, Carnoustie or Kingsbarns, but says his excitement levels to be playing them are ‘epic’.
