The highlight of his career so far came at the 2010 Open Championship, where he cruised to a seven stroke win at St Andrews in only his ninth appearance in a Major Championship. His win came four months after his European Tour breakthrough, his victory in the Open de Andalucía. He nearly added another Major in 2012, but lost to Bubba Watson in a play-off for the Masters, having produced a memorable albatross in the final round at Augusta on the 575-yard par five second hole. Came close again in 2015, first at the US Open, where he finished second, one shot behind Jordan Spieth, and at the Open Championship on its return to St Andrews, losing in a four-hole play-off to Zach Johnson.
Has already set up his own foundation at Mossel Bay, his home course where he once shot 57, for the next generation of South African golfers.
